Was born on July 27, 1946 in Ussuriisk of Primorsky region.

In 1969 graduated from the Military Academy of Armored Troops, Moscow.

In 1991 completed service in the Armed Forces of Russia with "Colonel" military rank.

Holder of 16 governmental awards.

Married, two children.

Since 1991 - professional explorer.

Organizer and leader of 25 high-altitude expeditions including three autonomous ski expeditions to the North Pole, first-ever autonomous trans-Arctic ski passage from Russia to Canada across the North Pole, the first international non-governmental expedition to the South Pole dedicated to the New Year of 2000 and others.

Full member of the Russian Geographical Society;

Member of the Russian Polar Explorers Association;

Member of the USA National Geographical Society;

Member of the USA Explorer's Club;

Member of Experts Council at the Russian Ministry of Emergency;

Member of the Board of Trustees of the International Roerich Centre;

In 1990 was awarded a Diploma of the Russian Geographical Society and the Minor Golden Medal named after N.N.Przhevalsky for the series of high-altitude expeditions in 1985-1989;

In 1990 was awarded the sports rank of "Honored Master of Sports of the USSR in Tourism";

In 1995 was awarded the sports rank of "Master of Sports of International Class";

Has more than 250 publications in Russian and foreign editions;

According to the independent international expert group "Adventure Stats", he is the only man in the world has reached the North Pole four times autonomously by ski;

In 2006 was awarded literary award "Silver Pen of Russia" for the series of sketches on the Arctic travels;

In 2007 the biography of Mr. V. Chukov was included into the encyclopedic directory "Who is Who" established in England in 1849.

In 2007 was awarded the title "Honorary Polar Explorer of Russia".
